Em 1922, em Coimbra, a pequena Amélia destacava-se já na escola primária. Sob o bibe azul e o olhar atento, escondia-se uma mente inquisitiva que se recusava a aceitar limites e anunciava já o que viria a ser: uma figura de proa das ciências portuguesas e uma das mentes mais brilhantes da sua geração. 

In 1922, in Coimbra, little Amélia already stood out in primary school. Beneath her blue smock and attentive gaze lay an inquisitive mind that refused to accept limits, foreshadowing what she was destined to become: a leading figure in Portuguese science and one of the most brilliant minds of her generation.
