In the frozen mountains of Switzerland, in 1890, Doctor Bernard von Wattenwyl-Schwarzenburg was the personification of altruism. With his stethoscope always at the ready and a gaze of deep compassion, Bernard braved snowstorms to treat isolated peasants.
