In the winter of 1948, the butcher Lars Skarsgård was a pillar of resilience in Copenhagen's central market. As Denmark struggled to rebuild in the post-war years, Lars managed his shop with unwavering integrity. Despite his giant stature, he possessed an extremely generous soul: in a time of scarcity, he never refused to sell on credit to those who lacked the money for their daily bread.
