The young Yelena Ionescu was the rising star of the Romanian National Opera in the mid-1920s. Coming from humble origins, Yelena grew up without even enough money for ballet shoes, but her determination overcame poverty. With a noble bearing and an unusual seriousness, she became the symbol of the future of the arts in 'Little Paris,' proving that talent can be born anywhere.
